How did you cope with (what I think) is Hungarian. Was it difficult when you just moved there? Or were you born/brought up in Hungary?

No, i was born in India but lived all over the world. Actually started at JWT Calcutta. Do not speak hungarian, it's a challenge but then I have lived with chinese and arabs and french without speaking their language.

I'm from Bombay. I'm just 20 right now and have been working since the past 4 months. I was thinking about working in different places too.

I'm a copywriter, but am also trying out my hand at Art Direction...which led me to consider joining Miami Ad School. IF I ever join there, it would be either in Brazil or Hungary (costs lesser than the branches in other cities). So I was curious about life in Hungary. (and Brazil)

what u need to know: even if u do miami ad school (which is mighty expensive) you still need a visa to work in any country which can be a nightmare specially when you are so young without much experience.

To top it all, you are a writer, so most non english countries are out, that means Hungary as well. As an Art Director you can practically work anywhere in the world.

The closest Miami AD school to Hungary is in Berlin. You would love the city, it supports art and culture.

Here's what you could also try. As a common wealth country Indians under 30 are eligible for work visas for UK. I am not sure about the details, but I think you are entitled to 2 years work visa. Get a work visa and hit the agencies. If you land an internship most likely you can stay there for long tern and then you can extend your visa or move places.

Thanks for the advice. I'll do some research on the commonwealth thing for UK, and other commonwealth countries as well.

And I'll also think about Ad school in Berlin. But if it's mighty expensive, its not for me.

And when you say internships, is it important to find one in a big agency only or is it okay to start at just about any decent agency.

Hi,

My friend quit a decent job with Grey Budapest (much against my advice) and took off for Berlin Miami Ad School. Costs her around 20,000 Euros a year for fees alone. But then as an EU member she can work part time in bars, clubs etc.

Easy to get visas for south east asia. Make a decent portfolio first, if u have awards, it really helps, and i am sure you can find a job in SE Asia. Even Dubai is not bad. It is always easier to move out from these countries to Western Europe then sitting out of India as you are with an expat community and they move and someone or the other pulls you.

You can be intern anywhere, wherevere they do good work. Even if you are in crap place you can move to a better place if you have a good portfolio. I moved to Bahrain in what I thought was the end of my advertising career. After 1 and a half years of working on Annual Reports and Credit Card application forms in Arabic I was offered a job with JWT Hong Kong and Nike was one of my Brands.

Bottom line, kick ass portfolio. Will email you.

And the Bahrain story brings hope. I just checked out websites of some agencies in SE Asia. Agencies like DDB Singapore have contacts for jobs in creative.

But before trying, I'll work some more on my portfolio.

this is tirthankar mitra again. i left JWT, Calcutta at the end of Sept.'06.
BTW, who was at the helm of the creative deliveribles during your stay? we had Senthyl (no, no, no, don't jump) Parthsarathy (see, not Kumar). who also left with me as his contract ended and he is now set to become a full-fledged ad/feature filmmaker based in his hometown - Bangalore.

i was also working with sibuda, samirda and dtp guy shayamalda. most of the old guys would still know me.
