Prof. Mahendra Patel, retired senior faculty from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, in 2003; presently an adjunct faculty at Symbiosis Institute of Design and MIT Institute of Design, both at Pune; has been honoured with “The Gutenberg Award” for 2010 by The International Gutenberg Society, Mainz, Frankfurt, Germany.

The Gutenberg Award is an award jointly established in 1968 by the City of Mainz and The International Gutenberg Society, for outstanding artistic, technical or scientific attainment in the domain of the art of printing. The members of the jury of the 2010 Gutenberg Award have appreciated Mahendra Patel’s work on “Type Design Development of Indian Scripts and Map & Signage Design Systems for several cities as excellent and very expressive”.

The Mainz Gutenberg Award has so far been bestowed 17 times and Prof. Mahendra Patel is the first Indian recipient of this Award. He has been invited by the mayor of the City of Mainz to receive this award at Mainz, Frankfurt on the 26th of June 2010.

Previous works of Mahendra Sir done in 70's ...
really admire the structured layout for the magazine cover which is very balanced and spaced..also
the gujarati font for the display text which he himself designed looks so elegent as well as mordern..

The graphic on the product folder is manually designed by placing screen printed text 'Fultork' one with
less transpirancy and one with solid fill with blue in a circular format to get an overlay effect..such great
efforts to achive a perceieved effect were made during those times..he's the best no doubt..

i see a great influence of dutch as well as European design may be because of his association with
one of the greatest type designer Mr.Adrian Frutiger..who was also his mentor..
