The Jupiter Drawing Room opened its doors for business in Johannesburg in May 1989. The Cape Town office started in 1993. Both offices comprise the brand The Jupiter Drawing Room (South Africa).

The agency name comes from an obscure Guy de Maupassant short story. In a country house in Normandy, France, Madame Tellier and her young ladies 'entertained' the local tradesmen downstairs. The local dignitaries however, had a special room set aside for them on the first floor: The Jupiter Drawing Room.

When the agency was founded in 1989 our philosophy was enshrined in the expression Rem tene, verba sequentur. (Grasp the subject and the words will follow). This reflected our belief that the best work could only be achieved by a thorough understanding of the task at hand.

In 2004, for the first time, we revisited our philosophy. And while the sentiments behind it remain true, we have articulated what we stand for in a new way:

Esse quam videre - To be rather than to seem.
