the Unique Identification Authority of India has called for a logo design contest. The winning logo gets some Rs 100,000 as first prize and a consolation prize of Rs 10,000 is offered.

Lets give it a serious crack. Its for the country!

Nandan Nilekani has been appointed as head of UIDAI – Unique Identification Authority of India. UID Authority of India (UIDAI) will work under the aegis of the Planning Commission and will be providing a unique identity to the targeted population of the flagship schemes to ensure that the benefits reach them.

Nandan Nilekani as chairman of the UIDAI will have Cabinet minister rank and status. Nandan Nilekani is the co-chairman of Infosys Technologies.

The UIDAI will have following responsibilities:

• * Have the responsibilities to lay down plans and policies to implement the Unique Identification Scheme (UID)
  * Shall own and operate the Unique Identification Number database
  * Will be responsible for its updation and maintenance on an ongoing basis
  * Will identify the targeted groups for various flagship programmes which are National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan, National Rural Health Mission and Bharat Nirman

The unique identification number would ensure that any lacuna in these schemes is removed so that the benefits do not reach those they are not meant for.

28th Feb is a very short time. Isnt it?

Moreover I do not know if one should participate or not. Anything that is linked with the Government is time taking and time consuming. I remember about a year back, the GOI had announced a Rupee Symbol Competition for the general public. Till now we haven't heard anything about it... I wonder if we will ever get a Rupee Symbol!

But here its Nandan Nilekani, so things will be different I hope.

i dont think many people knew of this. I had only vague;y heard of it. the euro design contest was more publicised though.

A couple of my friends participated that contest. Yes, they too are waiting for the results.

dont know about secrecy clause, but typiclly in government cases its always there... so better respect it. we are happy to just spread the word. you participating?
