The running of the sheep

This may not be a problem you can relate to, but sheep are people, too, so pay attention. In the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, England, where the sheep (but not the antelope) roam, about 30 sheep a year are killed by vehicles. Last year, eight were wiped out by one tourist (not to make any unfair assumptions, but it might have been an SUV). The driver apparently didn't take a "Beware Sheep" sign seriously. The sheep didn't take this lying down -- at least the ones that weren't dead. Several weeks later, a flock of them barrelled through the town of Bream, knocking a woman down, causing her a world of pain. This led to a search for solutions. The boldest was talk of painting the sheep with luminous paint so they would glow in the dark. Which inspired Steve Groves of the Western Mail across the border in Wales to write: "These punk sheep have a character of their own. They're nobody's fools and I would like to be there when the first coat of luminous pink is applied. More to the point, I'd like to be their agent. I have big plans. Never mind the paint. Let's go the whole hog and put advertising on their backs. I'll take only a small cut. I predict advertisers will be flocking to ram home their slogans on the mutton-dressed-as-advertising-hoardings."
