Some good freelance sites

Post by Hasmukh »

there are perhaps many thousand sites on the internet that offer freelance work. I dont know if any of them are any good, but I think there ARE people who are earnng some bits of money from these sites. What I find is worst about these sites, is the fact that the poor service providers, in a sincere attempt to win the business keep underbidding themselves upto a point where the monies are just not worth it.

here are some sites that I know of, though I still havent made a single dollar from them:

Elance: One of the oldest, it was launched sometime in 1998. Its extremely cumbersome to become a member of, requires a huuuge amount of time and money investment from me and then work is not guaranteed. You have limited number of bids allowed per month. Its an excellent way for Elance to make money, but me? No, I dont think so. I find it bureaucratic, like the old school economy that the web is supposed to replace.

Guru: Easier to become a member of, but also requires you to become a paid member without any guarantee of work.

Get A Freelancer: Easier than the previous two to become a member of, but also requires me to become a paid member. To quote them: Yes, I would like to become a Gold member for $12 per month. No commissions to pay, higher ranking and exclusive projects to bid on. 70.08% of projects are won by Gold members. (TWELVE DOLLARS A MONTH! JUST TO GET A CHANCE TO BID?)

Freelance India: Also paid membership. They also have priority membership plans etc. Puts me off.

What I would like is, a place where clients post briefs based on freelancers portfolios. How about a place where the clients overbid each other to get a particular freelancer only because his/her work is the best? SO there can be portfolios which you browse (which may have no usernames) and you may select a creaive who's work you like best and ask that person for a quote? and there maybe an indicative price so that people dont unnecessarily keep miling for prices they dont want to pay.
