What's Senthi's future

Senthi gets the gold for producing levi's slim jeans ad at Cannes. Now he is HOT in India and abroad.

I did not think the slim jeans ad is great. I think it is first thought and have seen similar work by a miami ad student (will forward the ads soon). Also I see no creativity in the campaign except in the TVC and one of the BB where the pants are down. The others are a shame, i mean they are just match stick people, they could have made 100 in the series and would have had 100 shortlist at Cannes.

This ad could very well have been by a junior, and that would have been a blessing. now Senthi as a senior will get a CD job at a top place and i do not know how good he is.

Thoughts?

good point krish. Since last few years we have had several medal winners at cannes. One is Hemant who did this great book for a book store that got gold in every single show. how good are these guys in real advertising, i mean do they understand the staregy behind an ad or just do clever ads. Levi's slim jeans ad doesn't really need a strategy. What is the ad really trying to say other then levi's slim jeans? it's not really building the brand. how good are they at handling the client, how good are they at teaching the next generation of younsters? that also leads to the other hot topic someone started: AD did it, CD gets the reward. Apart from Piyush, people like Pops, Chax etc have not really done anything in their long careers but now suddenly thanks to Senthi and all they are getting all the kudos. vicisous cycle.

Good topic guys. In fact on one hand it is really good, but in the end only few guys prevail. Pushpy's lost. Prasad is still winning but no one is talking about him. Hemant is still unkown. Ajay, the other guy from O&M who won gold at Cannes last year for India Today (empty magzine) they are all being forgotten. So the only people who have future is Piysuh, Agi, Prasson, Pops and Chaxs. The smaller guys are just pawns.

I read David Droga's interview in adage and he says that JWT's work for Levi's was a strong contender for Grand Prix. Eventually after much debate they gave it lego. What a shame...I thought this work was so original...way to go Senthil.

Wow, that would have been cool. I was actually hoping their film would get a grand prix. But you desis should check SHOTS cannes favourite. Not one indian spot on it and all that was on it won. Maybe we should see how shots guy decide.

Not doing good

I dont think the Levis Campaign reflects the desi creative industry. We are much better than that.I was quite dissapointed with the whole campaign. Its quite sad. The drawings are bad and there is no real campaign there.Just a lot of sketches with no imagination. You see kickass work from around the world: Thailand, Brazil, Argentina, London and then bullshit like this from India. The whold fact that its been awarded at Cannes (Would really like to know why) doesnt do any good for India abroad. I have collegues here calling it a joke.

And the ad is a full bloan scam. No one remembers seeing that ad in media. All you see for levis in india is crap ads with Bipasha Basu. That does not mean the ad is good, basically there one idea and then all the ads were just simple visuals of syick people without any other idea.
