VICE India is looking to hire a Desk Editor and Staff Writers.

Staff Writer
Responsibilities
-- Write between 4 to 20 stories of 800-1500 words each in a week, depending on the nature of the stories.
-- Write on different subjects such as development, education, identity, jobs, economy, sex, dating, sub-cultures, music, politics, cinema, sports, tech, health, investigations, social conflict.
-- Think as editors about who we want to reach out to and how and why they should care about the stories we want to tell.
-- Find untold VICE like story ideas on a daily basis - build a bank of steady sources for stories.
-- Write news related stories as and when required on a tight deadline.
-- Adhere to the rigour and standards of journalism prescribed by the organisation.
-- Write in the format, voice, tone, style typical of VICE stories.
-- Re-write/ edit stories for social media.
-- Commission stories when required.
-- Find freelancers for story ideas the staff writers are not writing themselves and work with them to guide them for our purposes.
-- Shape the VICE India identity through their work in and out of the office.
Requirements
-- A minimum of three years of experience as a writer.
-- Excellent command over the English language - grammar, syntax, familiarity with different genres/styles of non-fiction writing.
-- Ability to cultivate sources and come up with story ideas for untold stories in various genres and different subjects.
-- Ability to grasp and internalise the VICE tone and style and identify the angle and format that will work best for us.
-- Excellent reporting and researching skills.
-- Ability to collaborate, work with teams, and guide other reporter/writers when needed.
-- Keen interest in news and a couple of areas of specialisation but also the ability to write and report on any subject.
-- Thorough familiarity with and knack for the kind of journalism and stories VICE does internationally.
-- Excellent digital media and social media skills.
Desk Editor
Responsibilities
-- Shape and evolve a language for VICE India taking cues from VICE internationally and keeping in mind the target demographic of readers between the ages of 17 and 30 in India.
-- Rewrite, restructure, and work with writers on form and content in order to reshape submitted stories into VICE stories.
-- Workshop VICE like headlines and straps for website and social.
-- Thoroughly line read copies and check facts as well as robustness of stories.
-- Oversee production and sign off before upload to ensure the story in its final produced form has the look, feel, hook, and substance of a VICE story.
Requirements
-- A minimum of three years of experience as a writer and copy editor.
-- The ability and inclination to fashion a tone, style, and voice for VICE India across different genres of stories.
-- Excellent command over the English language - grammar, syntax, and different styles/genres of non-fiction writing.
-- Experience in research and fact-checking.
-- Familiarity with journalistic best practices.
-- A knack for moulding and shaping stories and finding the right headline.
-- Ability to work in the digital medium on the CMS and social media platforms.
-- Ability to re-edit and re-package stories for social media platforms such as Facebook according to the best practice guidelines for the respective platforms.
-- Ability to work on multiple stories during a work day.
