Vera Wang is a very famous bridal fashion designer who was born on June 27h, 1949 in New York City in a very affluent Chinese family. She witnessed a luxurious childhood from growing up on Manhattan’s Upper East Side to attending the elite Chaplin school followed by the School of American ballet and finally enrolling in the Sarah Lawrence College. She holds a degree in Liberal Arts, but originally she had aspired to become an Olympic figure skater.

Her designing career took off at a very nascent age when she joined Vogue and became the youngest editor. After seventeen years of dedicated service, she moved out of Vogue and started working with Ralph Lauren as a design Director for two years. With a born high fashion instinct, Vera Wang was not at all satisfied with the fashion standards of the then bridal industry. The boutiques all around were full of traditional dresses which lacked elegance and sophistication. Being a power house of fashion and the right experience, she took charge of designing her own wedding dress and hence was the time when her career took to a roaring uphill direction.

In 2007, a diffusion line of home fashion line is launched called the Simply Vera and is sold exclusively at the Kohl’s. In 2009, Wang was inducted into the U.S figure Skating Hall of Fame and recognized her contribution to the sport through her costume designs. Recently in 2010, Wang was also awarded with the Leadership in the arts award by Harvard-Radcliff Asian American Association.
