man if you can afford post production from Nirvana then by all means go ahead. We need streamlining. But i do like their Kerala ad more. I like the evocative song/jingle behind.

which Kerala ad? What do you mean by streamlining? Nirvana does the entire commercial, what do you mean by "afford their post production"?

Kerala tourism ad, here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFedfnR5seI . Post production takes money. If you want Wall E then PIxar is the way you go and Mr Lucas isn't cheap. What i'm saying is that Nirvana charges a premium which they don't deserve. We can do the same shit, what they're doing at a cheaper price. Yes ofcourse there should be an apt enough idea to execute, which is the job of the agency. Execution is tough but needn't have to be got at a premium like that. That is what i mean by streamlining.

dude. you got a lot wrong here. there is no price for talent. its not like making atoothpaste where you calculate the costs and add a margin and sell. What is teh cost of a lifetime of good upgrnging, talented soaking in of references and other stuff? what cost?

Pixar is not a post production suite. They dont do commercials. Commercials FOLLOW AND COPY what Pixar does.

Post production generally doesnt cost as much as production. get your figures and debates right dude. What you should do is concentrate on writing good scripts.

Man this is just childish, i hope you don't write copy. I'm not talking about creativity or the price of it. I play the drums so i know what creativity is, well kind of. So i'm not putting a price on creativity and i agree that creativity has no price which i've never doubted, questioned or otherwise disparaged. See its like this, when i wanted to make spec ads, what did i do? Learned some photoshop, layers, clone tool, lasso etc. These are basically the jargon you learn for photoshop right? Now i believe any copywriter should know it besides illustrator and indesign and the likes. Same for post production i.e. After effect. There is a lot of jargon you need to understand which even a donkey can learn if it wanted to. Trust me i watch Linklater, Polanski, Ray Tarantino and even Kurosawa,i.e. i too want to be a film maker and understand post production in my limited capacity as you'd also and which i sometimes think is just redundant when we can do their work.
I will not reply unless you make a valid point without understanding or taking my comment in the wrong spectrum of frequency. And just like you have a specialised art dept in an agency so you also have an after shooting treatment dept/ post production.

p.s. will message you the first half of my first chapter of my episodic film. and you never tell someone to do just something, "Write copy". I think thats just pompous haha, and if you've ever met me you'll know that I'm definitely the wrong person to tell this, because i know what i talk. I used pixar as an example/ metaphor of what expensive production is. Seen Wall E? A fucking cute movie.

That was good shooting down sir. One well deserved for a cocky fool, thinking of himself as the world. But i respect experience. Its great that you keep learning after 19yrs. I have noticed a lot of people who stop trying to learn after a while, thinking that they know all they need to survive well. I like psychology you know, Jung and James. But nice one sir, no disrespect meant.

Canismajor, if anyone hired you as a copywriter, they should immediately fire you. your entire debate is ccompletely focusless. what are you trying to say?

1) that post production is the biggest expense in filmmaking?

2)
" i too want to be a film maker and understand post production in my limited capacity as you'd also and which i sometimes think is just redundant when we can do their work"
so are you trying to say that teh director can learn post and do it himself?

3) you watch a lot of movies so you become a good film maker?

and several others, but I am too bored to point out the foibles in your lame post.

Just because someone watches cricket doesnt make that person a great player. same for film making. you are an enthusiastic audience. people liek Kurosawa or Bergman didnt get to watch a lot of films to become whatthey have. it comes with immense passion and an inherent skill. these people, whose names you throw, edited their films on Steenbecks (go, you lowly underpaid frustrated writer, do Wiki it) and hardly had any opticals (there, Wiki that too, and once done, pay me for teaching you stuff your underwired brain cant get), so their biggest, and biggest, focus has been the script. foolish people like you concentrate on post. and I hope you dont reply to this post, because I will be too bored to read your juvenile rants.

also, dont read the works of psychologists. you need to meet them to fix your muddled brain. and dont be so frustrated. life isnt so bad after all, even if you are a lowly unaccomplished copywriter.

This is a new low, hauling names. You really don't know who i am clearly. And ofcourse i reply. But i'm happy, i just got back from Kasol, so i'll overlook the disrespect and try to be objective.

Firstly we start with the whole movie watching thing. A valid point, infact a certainty in case of probability of finding good movie directors by being a avid movie watcher. Point taken. But when you start dissecting movies like this,
Lets say Tropic Thunder
Now tropic thunder was a meta movie just like Pirandello's play about some characters. It was a movie about making a movie. So the audience automatically has a disconnect on screen because they need to connect to two characters in each character in the movie right? Genius stuff by TT.

Secondly about method acting which Downey Jr is suppossed to be good at (in the movie). Now Simple Jack is suppossed to be Stiller's entry into hardcore acting, i.e method but he screws up. Why because as Downey says you can't completely identify without keeping a distance.

And having a collage of actors in a movie will mostly always fare better. I'm sure you know why.

These really are my own insights. There are more but i try understanding movies.

Secondly no i don't mean post production is the most expensive thing. Man come on. I sent you the wiki link. Even i read that to get data. Did you see if it ever was the most expensive thing? But it ranged from 0.2% to 40%. But it is a necessary evil. What i'm saying is to tame this evil a bit. This i'm sure hinders a lot of indie film makers. How many people use a 35mm or even a 16mm. Things are expensive and hence i think its now become a necessity for film makers to cut cost unless you're backed by something like Lionsgate, Mgm, or some shit.

So yes i suggest all indie film makers to understand post production in enough capacity that they can reduce the cost one or two more people . I guess equipment of course is the heel so maybe i should say reducing cost won't be much. This is a little muddled yes. Tired (12 hr journey) will settle this point in its entirety later.

Yes i didn't know about the Steenback thing. Great i did wiki it. Though now redundant but yet good to know.

Ok so you come to lowly paid and underwired. Not nice man. Google my name, there should be atleast one cache page of some entrance result or something. iimc just has numbers so but still.

Thirdly yes i agree they were pioneers. I mean absolute geniuses. Having you seen any of Kurosawa's films?
Some his greatest work which made a huge impacts were scenes like a flash look at the sky. Thats film editing and visual metaphor at play. Man photography is what i mean. Or starting of Rashomon. The fit begining visual composition for a tragic story that'll play out. It was heavy rain falling on and dilapidated monastry or temple with a priest and a farmer looking sullen yet one of them in anger and disbelief. Nothing is said in the beginning, as the camera comes down from the roof to zooming into the characters taking shelter. So its not only about script.

Actually a big part of the director is to make his actors understand his vision and get that special something which each actor being to the table.

And the writer always has his own vision and the director his own. This disconnect is sometimes a big tragedy but in some cases a wonder, i.e when the director has a better vision for the script.

Dude too late about reading psychology man. Read quite a few books of Jung and well no throwing names. Enough done in the post before me haha.

Fourthly me and my boss get along well. He likes Blackadder, Kubrick, Thelonius, Monk, Like the Most interesting man in the world, loves single malt, JW Black and reads Gibson. When i was reading Chandler, he spot on knew him. Great huh? Treasure trove of information. We're similar in most of these ways except Blues and Jazz is tough for me. There solos change time signatures and on top of the the drums are either 3/4 so they meet at maybe every 24th 8th note and Gibson. Tried Nuero didn't work.

I'll say you are a little juvenile. You pick up my references which i use just as an example for a plethora that that reference belongs to i.e a particular genre lets say photo editing and throw it back to as i don't know.

AFTER EFFECTS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AN EXAMPLE OF THE GENRE OF FILM MAKING THAT IS POST PRODUCTION.

p.s. You're the one throwing insults and i'm the pissed off with life. I'm really happy.
And what you didn't like my work? Please i'd love to hear your critique and please be as brutal.
But don't tell me you didn't find my iambic penta/hexa sometimes rhyme cool. Dude man Shakespeare wrote like that. i was trying to copy him.
Here
I seem to crave. And so in hope i say'st
i think this is the closest i've come yet it aint exactly right.
But i love to hear some critique.
And yes i shouldn't be throwing names but they sometimes come you know any way point taken. And dude chill with the wiki stuff.
If i have missed out on anything or erred please correct me in your next post and i will surely reply.

And aggressiveness is a compensation for lack of security in most cases. So you develop one side of your character and while the objective rational side starts loosing its hold as your ego resorts to reacting more aggressively most of the time. Its simple "nerves that fire together, wire together." mind patterns and evolution, its fucking crazy beautiful. This consultation is free of charge..haha joking dude don't lose it on this one atleast.
untill later
See you dude.
