Re: UIDAI Logo Design Contest

Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of UIDAI, with the newly launched logo of the UIDAI at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday.
The 16-digit unique identification number to be assigned to each individual by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will now come under the new name ‘AADHAR' and will also bear a logo, which was unveiled here on Monday.
“The people can connect with both of these instantly,” said Atul Sudhakarrao Pande, whose design was picked from among 2,000 entries. The UIDAI rewarded him with a cheque for Rs.1 lakh.
The brand name and logo for the unique number were made public at a meeting chaired by UIDAI chairman Nandan Nilekani, who said these two symbols were necessary to make the scheme and the number recognisable and communicate the spirit and essence of the mandate to the people and win their confidence.
The unique number will be the ‘AADHAR' or foundation through which the citizen can claim his/her rights and entitlements when assured of equal opportunities, as symbolised by the logo, which has the halo of the Sun on the imprint of a thumb.

Re: UIDAI Logo Design Contest
Isn't it unfair for people who participated?
How can they change the name suddenly and not publicize it, knowing that people are working on the logo?
What did Pande actually submit?
I am sure he did something with UID and then when Mr.Nandan decided to name it Aadhaar, the logo was changed to Aadhaar from UID.
And secondly what is Aadhaar?
To the best of my knowledge, Aadhaar doesnt mean foundation, it means support!
Any thoughts, fellow desis!

I think Pande might have submitted the same thing with UIDAI under it.
He was lucky that his was a generic concept without any 'U' or 'I'.
I think notification mislead us.

Re: UIDAI Logo Design Contest
Really nice design that has been chosen - but if this is for AADHAAR, then the design doesn't fit to the name and doesn't purposefully comply its purpose. Aadhaar doesn't mean foundation, i.e., true; rather it means "the base of the foundation". Tell me, is the name 'AADHAAR' fits the purpose of UIDAI?
And yes, it is discrimination - more or less a person who is in such a high position in the industry should be knowing this simple thing. I am seriously not happy with the decision.

Re: UIDAI Logo Design Contest
the selected logo is nice but not modern and contemporary. it still looks like the 70s logos of Govt Of India institutions like IIM etc. Its sad that aesthetically we are not pushing ourselves enough. In fact I had liked some of the logos shared here on the forums more.
do you guys think the logo looks contemporary, in terms of design aesthetics?

Re: UIDAI Logo Design Contest
We should ask the winner if he had some inside information that they will change the name overnight!
I am very unhappy with what has happened with this competition.
Come what may, the entries which are typographic are obviously out. They cant be considered because those cant be used with the words UID.
And it makes me feel even more unhappy because Nandan Nelekani is involved in this project!

Re: UIDAI Logo Design Contest
true. and also considering what happened with antzfx on the Kozhikode logo, I am losing faith on the government's logo contests. Dont even want to participate in the Railways logo contest.
