interesting catchy looking ads, but I dont like the difficulty of having to read vertical headlines. just my two bits.

Re: The Lalit Intercontinetal
But I am happy the Art Director has not used a Japanese-looking English font for the Headline.
Something that I would have followed.
Looks nice but. Quite catchy

Re: The Lalit Intercontinetal
Wouldn't it have been more confusing Allen?
Imagine Japanese looking font in a vertical headline!!!
I simply also hate that Devnagri-looking English font that is used and abused by almost everyone in advertising & design space. Sorry if I have got it wrong but I think its called 'Samarkan'.
Certain characters are so confusing that I cant make out the character 'M' I confuse it for the devnagri letter 'La'
Eg. I cant make out if it reads Mumbai or Lumbai... Just saw this in one of the recent telecom campaign. Dont remember which one!

Re: The Lalit Intercontinetal
i mean if there were a horizontal headline, then it would have worked with a semi-oriental looking font (I have tried Herculanum). In that matter perhaps Allen is right? What do you think Pixelfiesta?

and I know what you mean by Mumbai in Samarkan. I HATE it too. People just don't seem to get it.

Re: The Lalit Intercontinetal
Precisely Saumya, I agree with your version.
But either Allen didnt get me or I didnt get Allen's point. I think my post are quite clear. Read thru.
But you know what Japanese designs are quite different. I have often seen Japanese ads/ mags and many of them have vertical headlines. Has anyone else noticed that too?
Saumya, you have that FONT!
But do you use it? I hate Mumbai being written that way or any other text for that matter. But I am glad you found what I had in my mind.
I must confess I also have that but I dont use it. I instead use Simran (part of the Linotype Gold Collection)
Thanks, for the Lul-bai graphic. She looks as dumb as Lulbai (Mumbai written in Samarkan)!
BTW, soyi nahi abhi tak? unless you are on a different planet (different country, different time-zone)

allen probably meant ahorizontal headline. whatsay allen?
vertical Japanese headlines? no dont recall vertical jap headlines in roman text.
arrey, finishing some last minute thing now taxi has arrived. leaving for home now. you know how they always want stuff like 'give me, like, yesterday, you know!'
I have to run now. You take care.

Re: The Lalit Intercontinetal
I will try and post some Japanese advertising stuff.
If not Japanese specifically, atleast some Oriental creatives use vertical lines.
You know...
Oriental letters are more pictorial in nature. So I guess its easy to understand pictorials.
Or why dont we just ask DesignBoyz why this Horizontal Headline?

Re: The Lalit Intercontinetal
Oh DesignBoyz, you seem to be offended. Are you? Hope you are not!
I was just wondering, if there is some philosophy behind using it that way. Was also wondering if its is a practice in Japan to use Vertical text. If you have a reason, fine. If not, its still fine.
You are not in a court, DesignBoyz. We are all learning from each other. Arent we?
